Hell Holes 2 – Background
← Back to Hell Holes 2: Demons on the Dalton
Coldfoot, Alaska, Stryker Armored Personnel Carrier, Pave Hawk Helicopter, Eielson AFB
| Coldfoot is little more than a truck stop on the Dalton Highway between Fairbanks, Alaska and the tiny oil town of Deadhorse at Prudhoe Bay. There are no services along the Dalton on the 240 miles between Coldfoot and Deadhorse. It has a post office (the blue building above), The Trucker’s Cafe (the restaurant to the right), a few overnight accommodations at Coldfoot Camp, and an airstrip.
Stryker Armored Personnel Carrier
| In Hell Holes 2: Demons on the Dalton, the Stryker armored Personnel Carrier is the primary military land vehicle used to combat the advancing demon horde, both by the Alaska National Guard in the tiny town of Coldfoot, Alaska and by the US Army in the Battle of the Yukon River Forest Fire.
Pave Hawk Medical Evacuation Helicopter
After the battle of the Yukon Forest Fire, a Pave Hawk Medical Evacuation Helicopter was used to evacuate the book’s main characters to Eielson AFB just south of Fairbanks. Note how the six stretchers are stacked one on top of the other on either side of the passenger compartment.
Eielson Air Force Base
The last chapter of the book involves a fateful meeting between the US Military, members of The Order, and the surviving scientists that takes place around the commander’s conference table in the headquarters building at Eielson AFB. I toured Eielson AFB as part of my research for the books, and took this photograph and many others.
